Terms & Conditions – Ceramic Classes

These Terms & Conditions apply to all participants enrolled in ceramic classes. By joining, you agree to the following:

1. Class Types & Structure

Advanced Class

  • Duration: 1 class per week, over 4 consecutive weeks.

  • Length: Each class is 3 hours.

  • Clay Provided: Up to 2 × 10kg bags of white, slightly grogged clay per 4-week cycle. Additional bags will be invoiced.

  • Glazes Provided: Basic glazes (white & transparent, blue, espresso). Any other paint-on or dipping glazes must be supplied by you, or I can purchase them on request and invoice you. Glazes will be stored securely in a personal locker.

  • Firings Included:

    • Bisque firing: 1 ×

    • Glaze firing: up to 2 ×

    • Overglaze firing: 1 ×

    • Additional firings due to poor craftsmanship or extra work will be invoiced separately.

  • Work Size Limits: You may build as much and as large as you like, provided it fits in my kiln.

Starter & Intermediate Classes

  • Duration: Same schedule as Advanced (1 class per week, 4 consecutive weeks, 3 hours per class).

  • Clay Provided: 1 × 10kg bag of white, slightly grogged clay per 4-week cycle. Additional clay must be purchased.

  • Learning Progression:

    • Starters: First 4 weeks focus on basic techniques and exercises. Large-scale work may only begin after these foundations are learned.

    • Intermediates: Same terms as Advanced but limited to 1 × 10kg bag of clay.

2. Attendance & Payments

  • Classes are sold in 4-week packages.

  • Missed classes cannot be carried over into the next 4-week cycle.

  • If you miss a class, you may attend any Starter or Intermediate class during the same 4-week cycle to make up for it. Otherwise, the class is forfeited.

  • Payment must be made in advance. If payment is not received, you cannot attend classes or collect finished work.

3. Firing & Work Responsibility

  • I will take steps to separate fragile/risky work to minimize the chance of explosions. However, I cannot guarantee protection of your work or others’ work in case of kiln accidents.

  • Clay is inherently temperamental. Even when all steps are followed, cracks, warping, or explosions may occur.

  • I do not take responsibility for:

    • Cracks, damages, or mistakes due to clay behavior.

    • Explosions in the kiln affecting your work or others’ work.

  • Additional firings required due to poor craftsmanship will be invoiced.

4. Materials & Storage

  • Only white, slightly grogged clay is provided.

  • All personal glazes and materials must be labeled and will be stored in a locker.

  • You are responsible for collecting your finished pieces within a reasonable timeframe.

5. Liability Disclaimer

By participating in these classes, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • Ceramic work carries risks of cracking, breakage, and kiln explosions.

  • The instructor is not liable for damage, loss, or breakage of work, tools, or personal property.

  • Safety instructions must be followed at all times.
